Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Jeanette Aguirre and I’m 29 years old. I’m originally from Los Angeles, California and have been in Salem for about 3 years. I have 2 super awesome kids (Alexa and Alexio) and an amazing husband. I currently work for the Salem Keizer School District as a School Counselor. I absolutely love what I do, but the job defiantly calls for a lot of self-care. I have found that Crossfit lets me forget about each day’s work and gives me the energy needed to chase 4 year olds down school hallways.
How did you hear about CrossFit and why did you start?
I heard about Crossfit from my husband. He tried convincing me to join for about 2-3 months, but I was just lazy and found every excuse possible to not work out. However, I started because I got tired of people comparing me to how thin I was before my kids. I also noticed that what I saw in the mirror was far from who I wanted to be. Lastly, like mentioned above, my job calls for a lot of self-care and Cross-fit helped fill that gap.
How has CrossFit changed your life?
The day I started Crossfit, I cried right before walking into the gym. I had forgotten how to run and use my body to its fullest capacity. I still remember how sore I was from day 1’s workout, but I wouldn’t trade that pain for anything in the world. I felt so proud of myself even though it took me 5 min to go up a flight of stairs. The pain represented how I was finally doing something for myself. Today, I find myself running without running out of breath, I have a lot more energy for my kids and I could finally do something with my husband that we both enjoy. Crossfit has truly become a family affair.
What have you accomplished, that you couldn't before, because of CrossFit?
Run! I can’t believe I could run again! I can also do a 15 min. workout that feels like torture and look forward to what tomorrow will bring. I had never liked working out, but I’m sure having positive and motivating coaches has a lot to do with it!
Tell us one goal or P.R. you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.
One goal I would like to accomplish is do 1 single pull up. It amazes me every time I watch someone do one.
What is your favorite part of Cherry City CrossFit?
My favorite things about Cherry City Crossfit are (1) The awesome coaches (2) The people you meet and how everyone pushes each other (3) The tiny class sizes.
What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
I really like doing dead lifts and hope to get better at them.
What is your LEAST favorite CrossFit movement?
I do NOT like wall balls! I’m still working on doing them correctly.
Why do you fight? What pushes or motivate you?
I fight because no one else will fight for me. If I don’t do this for myself, no one else will. I got tired of doing nothing for my body and filling my brain up with excuses. The idea of being able to run with my kids and see them grow up is so much more worth it than overeating and crying about the consequences. Also, doing this next to my husband allows us to be each others cheerleaders.
