Tell us a little about yourself.

Born and raised in Salem. I'm a typical Oregonian and love hiking, biking, skiing, camping, etc. I have one son who's turning 19 in a few months (scary). I've been working at the State Hospital for 11 years this month. I'm super happy with my job and the people we serve. No other place I'd rather be working!

How did you hear about CrossFit and why did you start?

I heard about Cherry City Crossfit, in May, from my best friend Bev Ecklund. Bev's pretty fun, so it seemed like whatever we did together would be entertaining.  I also really wanted to work on getting in shape so I could be ready for adventures over the summer - it was good timing.

How has CrossFit changed your life?

I now say things like:"Wanna practice jump roping this weekend";"I pulled my butt muscle doing a cartwheel" and;"We should do a 5k for fun while we are there".Those words would never have come out of my mouth without crossfit in my life. I feel great!

What have you accomplished, that you couldn't before, because of CrossFit?

I ran in a 5k race and I wasn't last. I can throw more than 100# over my head and can deadlift my body weight. I feel like I could do anything sometimes if reality didn't get in the way. #thankscrossfit

Tell us one goal or P.R. you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.

I want to do a strict pull-up so bad. I'll probably cry when it actually happens. A 275# deadlift is my "achievable goal" but I really want it to be over 300#.

What is your favorite part of Cherry City CrossFit?

Coach JENNA - She gets up super early so I can work out at 5:00 am. I'm not sure she's as much of a morning person as I am, so it means a lot that she's there! She also tells me that I can do things and I believe her. She's great. Thanks for putting up with me!

What is your favorite CrossFit movement?

Deadlifting or the clean and jerk. It's a toss up. Weightlifting is pretty awesome. I like the walking-on-air feeling after lifting something super heavy.

What is your LEAST favorite CrossFit movement?

I complain the most about running, but the jump rope is not my friend. One, dang it. One, nope. One, ouch, one. That's about how it goes when I'm trying to jump rope. It's so frustrating. One, nope. One.....

Why do you fight? What pushes or motivate you?

Brooke Ence's arms motivate me. Have you seen them?! Holy crap! I wonder how many pull-ups she's done over the years to get those guns? I tell myself- only 18,756 (that's my guess) more pull-ups till my arms look like that. Keep chipping away at that number. Gotta start with 1. I really like that I can't do most of the things in crossfit well. It gives me something to work on and celebrate when I win the little victories. Counting my first pull-up, double under and pistol squat will be pretty amazing. I can't wait!
