Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, my name's Rebecca Johnston :) I'm 22 and was born and raised in California, but moved here to Salem about 9 years ago now. Coffee is a huge part of my life so come to no surprise it's what I do for a living. I work early mornings for Dutch Bros in Keizer, then by the afternoon I'm at our CrossFit gym for the remainder of the day. Currently working towards getting my L-1 certification so I can become more involved as a CrossFit coach.
How did you hear about CrossFit and why did you start?
I first discovered CrossFit through a friend of mine. I remember being pretty intimidated at first, but sat in on a few classes and saw how they were modifying every movement. I had never seen anything like it! So from that moment on I couldn't wait to be about it.
How has CrossFit changed your life?
My life has truly been transformed with CrossFit. I've been doing this for over a year straight now and am close to being in the best shape of my life. Besides getting stronger, the community is what makes CrossFit an addiction. The friends I've made here have turned into family.
What have you accomplished, that you couldn't before, because of CrossFit?
I noticed the littlest improvements right away. At my work every shift change we take out our coffee grind which is usually a "man's job" but quickly gained the strength to do it myself and be the only girl able to ;) That felt pretty good.
Tell us one goal and P.R. you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.
As I mentioned before, I'm working on gaining the knowledge to be able to coach and earn my L-1 eventually. Performance wise though I'd love to have the courage and compete some day! And of course, I want to nail my first muscle up.
What is your favorite part of Cherry City CrossFit?
I love so much about this CrossFit gym, but what stands out most for me is that this is a faith based gym. The owner is a chapter leader through Faith RX'd which has blown up in the CrossFit community and I'm blessed to be included in that.
What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
My all time favorite thing to do in CrossFit is heavy power cleans! Thankfully it's something we work on often.
What is your LEAST favorite CrossFit movement?
I am a strong hater of wall balls. Wall balls are not my friend. Don't be friends with wall balls.
Why do you fight? What pushes or motivate you?
What most don't realize is what a beautiful privilege it is to be able to exercise and work our bodies to the best of our ability, and I think we all should take advantage of that more. CrossFit has also been such a strong foundation in the relationship I share with my boyfriend. He is my best friend, my rock, and motivates me to overcome the impossible. CrossFit has taught me to fight and never give up.
